RNIB See Differently Awards celebrate the people and organisations dedicated to improving the lives of blind and partially sighted people. On Tuesday the 29th of March our Artistic Director Nathan Geering was fortunate enough to be a finalist. The event was high profile with a number of celebrities attending and presenting awards. The event was sponsored by Amazon Alexa, Mastercard, Santen, Thomas Pocklington Trust, Pantene, Bayer and Kellogg's.
The energy and atmosphere in the room was filled with positivity and encouragement for all who attended. The national awards ceremony shone a light on those who have been doing outstanding work with the sight loss community. This was indeed and inspirational night that was full of celebration.
An unexpected turn of events arose when our Artistic Director Natan Geering won Community Contributor of the Year! This was so much of a shock that he didn't even prepare an acceptance speech and for the first time in history.......he was lost for words!
When Nathan could finally find the words to express his feelings he gave the following statement:
"Winning this award is definitely a career highlight as when I started working with accessibility I never in my wildest dreams thought I would be nominated for such an award......let alone win it! It all feels surreal and I keep getting emotional every time I think about it. It feels incredible to have my hard work and passion recognised in this way by the community I serve. I have met so many amazing people along this journey and look forward to forging great friendships and partnerships as I continue my journey of accessibility innovation. Big love and respect to the sight loss community, Rationale Arts Charity, RNIB and everyone who has been a part my journey so far."
